Introduction to the Essence of Buddhism
by Pracha Hutanuwatr
Who was the Buddha and what did he teach? How do Thai Buddhists, both monks and lay people, follow the Buddha’s teachings? How does Buddhism address the social and ecological issues of our day? This 4 session course will answer these questions and more. The instructor, Pracha Hutanuwatr, is a facilitator and author passionate about integrating contemplation and social action. A former monk for 11 years, he was trained under the guidance of the renowned Buddhist philosopher, the late Buddhadasa, and Sulak Sivaraksa, an influential Siamese intellectual. Pracha was the director of the Wongsanit Ashram for 10 years before founding the Young Awakening organization to bring holistic education to young people. Since 2016 he has co-directed “Awakening Leadership Training” an annual 6 month program based at Wongsanit Ashram for social change workers around Asia and beyond.
Course format will be a lecture on zoom followed by an interactive question and answer session with the instructor. Short readings or videos will be provided for
participants to enrich their understanding of the course material.
