Meet the Makers – A Full Day Excursion to a Karen Weaving Village

Description:

Payap Lifelong Learning, in collaboration with Thai Tribal Crafts, presents Meet the Makers, a full day excursion to a Karen village in Mae Tang where you will meet the women weavers who make the beautiful handicrafts sold at the TTC Fair Trade shop. Participants will not only learn about and observe the process of making natural dye, spinning yarn, weaving on a backstrap loom, and doing hand embroidery but will also have the opportunity to try these activities for themselves. They will also be given a guided tour of the village and eat lunch with a host family. Translators will be available so that you can speak with the villagers. In addition, 2 days prior to the excursion, there will be an informal orientation about Karen culture and village life at the LLL Center.

Cost includes transportation, activities with villagers (natural dye, yarn spinning, backstrap weaving, hand embroidery), guided tour of village, translation, lunch with host family, pre-trip orientation
