The Challenges of Peacebuilding in Thailand

a talk and discussion with Dr. Mark Tamthai

Peacebuilding is, essentially, about healing broken relationships.  As such, it is to be expected that the concrete challenges faced by different societies and cultures would be of a different nature.  In this talk Dr. Tamthai will discuss the particular challenges that peacebuilding in Thailand faces.  He will cover the topics of sacred values, different ways of learning meanings, the impotence of reason, and authoritarian conflict resolution. There will be time for Q & A.

Dr. Tamthai received his PhD in the field of History and Philosophy of Science from Indiana University in 1975 after which he joined the Faculty of Science at Chulalongkorn University. In 1980 he became the head of the Philosophy Department where he remained until 2004 when he became the director of the Institute of Religion, Culture and Peace at Payap University. Currently he serves as a faculty member in the PhD program in Peacebuilding at Payap University.
