SUMMARY:Overnight Excursion to Explore Lampang’s Commercial Heritage
DESCRIPTION:Time:\n7:00 am Saturday morning – 4:00 pm Sunday evening \nDescription:\nIn August\, 2025 a rail excursion to Lampang brought us to some of the highlights of the region’s railway heritage\, including the Chompoo Bridge and Khun Tan station. This year\, we’ll be returning to Lampang for a weekend in which we’ll learn more about the city’s architectural heritage and especially about its history as a commercial center during the early 20 th century. \nItinerary:\nSaturday\, July 18\n\n07:30 Depart Chiang Mai by train\n09:30 Arrive at Lampang train station\, board vans\, then visit Baan Pong Nak\, residence of King Rama VII and his wife when they visited the North in 1927\nLunch at Baan Phraya Suren\, located in a historic house\nAfternoon – Explore Dhanabadee Ceramic Museum\nCheck in at The Coconut Hotel\n17:00 – leave hotel for our guided walking tour of the old commercial district along Kad Kongta Walking Street. Enjoy dinner on your own at your own leisure after the tour.\n21:00 return to the hotel\n\nSunday\, July 19\n\nBreakfast at the hotel\nVisit Louis Leonowens House and other historic teak houses in the area north of the river\nLunch at Krua Mookda (famous for grilled chicken and papaya salad)\nAfternoon – Visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang\, then return to Chiang Mai\n16:00 arrive Chiang Mai\n\nCost includes transportation by train and van\, hotel\, tour and faculty guides\, 1 breakfast\, 2 lunches\, insurance\, admission fees\, pre-excursion talk on July 17.
