Over 100 museums in Chiang Mai preserve and communicate natural and cultural heritage in Northern Thailand. This presentation focuses upon the history of their development and support by ommunities, temples and government administration. Discover historic buildings, archaeological sites, natural documentation and conservation, temple, art and ethnographic collections, including smaller niche museums and those created by universities and government agencies. The presentation will also introduce a national museum database, offering enrichment to travel in Thailand Rebecca Weldon, who has a background in anthropology and the philosophy of museums, has lived most of her life in this region, working with and advising museums in both Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai This talk is the first of our museum series, and beginning in June, Rebecca Weldon will lead monthly museum excursions.
