Thailand hill tribe hand work and Japanese Sashiko share a common thread—both were born from necessity, resilience and the honoring of cloth. In Japan, Sashiko was used to strengthen and repair garments through simple running stitches. Among Thailand’s hill tribe communities, hand stitching has long preserved identity, tradition, and craftsmanship through generations.

This workshop celebrates the connection between these traditions –where every stitch tells a story of endurance, care and the beauty of handmade artistry.

You will learn the art of traditional Sashiko and simple hand sewing techniques while creating your own unique piece to take home. We will focus on mindfulness, slow stitching and relaxation through art while supporting local knowledge in a meaningful and authentic way. Guided by Malee, an Integrated Tribal Development Foundation staff and member of the “Karen” hill tribe, this is a beginner friendly workshop where all are welcome.

Integrated Tribal Development Foundation provides hope to the hill tribe villages of Northern Thailand through clean water, agriculture, coffee farming and women’s co-op handcrafts.
