Chiang Mai House of Photography with Rebecca Weldon

Description:

The Chiang Mai House of Photography was established to collect and preserve photographs for the documentation and understanding of northern Thai culture. Through the collection, local people are made aware of their living heritage and how it is founded in the cultural and natural history of the past.

The current presentation exhibits the work of Kakiji Yaki, a Japanese resident of Chiang Mai in the early 20th century. He photographed many historic and religious sites as well as events relating to aristocratic and royal culture, including those taken of the visit of King Rama VII to Monthon Payap in 1926.

The photographic archive of the museum includes extensive local collections and documentation of temple murals, accessible online.
