Integrating Domestic Life into Lanna Thai Dance

Integrating Domestic Life into Lanna Tai Dance

Itinerary:

This presentation combines both a lecture and demonstration by Ajarn Waewdao Sirisook and dancers from the Sirisook Dance Theatre. The theme is how Lanna people integrated their beliefs, philosophy, and daily routines into a dance performance as shown through the dance movements, costumes, and sometimes in the songs. The performance will include Fauwn Tee (Umbrella Dance), Fauwn Sao Mail (Silk Reeling Dance), Fauwn Wee (Fan Dance), and Fauwn Dab-Fauwn Jerng (Martial Arts and Sword Dance). There will be time for Q & A after the performance.

Presenter: Ajarn Waewdao Sirisook

Ajarn Waewdao Sirisook is a choreographer/ dancer from Chiang Rai who first studied dance within her village community. In 2005 she went to UCLA in the US to earn an MFA in Dance/Choreography. She has taught Lanna dance in many schools and communities throughout Thailand and performed in dozens of cultural programs abroad for the Tourism Authority of Thailand including, in July of this year, in the United States. Last year she received the prestigious Sillapin Silapathorn Award which names her as a National Artist in Contemporary Performing Arts. We are extremely fortunate that Aj. Waewdao has agreed to give many demonstrations of Northern Thai dance here at Lifelong Learning Payap.
