Description
This lecture/performance, given by the accomplished academic and dancer Aj. Waewdao Sirisook, will focus on the dance of Lanna and its revitalization in recent years. It will include the culture and history of Lanna dance, the genre and forms of the dance due to various ethnic groups in Lanna, the textiles and costumes used in dance, as well as a demonstration of significant Lanna dances including both those used in rituals and those which are adapted from domestic life. The lecture and demonstration will also explain how Lanna people treat dance as an offering within the Lanna belief system.
Aj. Weawdao will be joined by three of her dance students to perform several famous Lanna dances such as Fawn Leb (Fingernail Dance), Fawn Mong Suewy Yii, Fawn Sao Mai (Silk Reeling Dance), Nang Yoan, and Fawn Buranakata (The Vessel of Life). There will be time for questions and answers.
